Gloria,

First of all, congratulation on your decision to take action and setup a money making blog - it's really a big step!

Web host's fees vary between $4.95 and $9.95 a month (depending on a host plan you choose) and I usually recommend 3 web hosts I personally tried (new post about hosting coming soon). My personal preference is Host Monster, they do provide a lot of bang for the buck, have great service and support.

You must pay for a domain name, and Host Monster will actually buy one domain name for you (no extra fee). I would not suggest to pay for advertising when you just starting out with a blog. Get blog setup, get domain name and hosting, develop blog for awhile and then come up with advertising plan (traffic generation strategy).

Here is summary:
1. come up with domain name.
2. setup hosting, if you go with monthly plan - you'll spend $9.95 a month and $39 will buy you almost 4 months of service.
3. choose blog platform, I recommend Wordpress.
4. setup a blog on your domain... and start blogging!

I wish you great success,
Max

Thanks for your information, although I still have questions regarding setting up my first blob. And while yes, FREE is what I would prefer, I am also in this for the long-haul, which means that I don't want to risk having my blog site dropped (once I set it up) because I want control and to be able to earn a income with it.

Could you please suggest the most affordable web hosts for my blog? What kind of fees would I be looking at? A one time $39 or less? Also, must I pay for anything else such as a domain name or advertising?

I'm hoping that I can get this whole blog thing launched for about $100 give or take? Am I out of touch?

I'd appreciate your advice and am eager to get started on this blog as soon as possible. Thanks.
